Common Terminology

1-Layer Cross Stitch A single layer of twill fabric sewn onto the garment using a zia-zag (cross stitch) sewing stitch.
1-Layer Satin Stitch A single layer of twill fabric sewn onto the garment using a satin stich style.
2-Layer Cross Stitch Two layers of twill fabric used to give a foreground and background color appearance. A two layer cross stitched letter is the most common method of sewing twill onto a garment.
2-Layer Satin Stitch Two layers of twill fabric used to give a foreground and background color appearance sewn onto a garment using a satin stich style. By choosing different color threads for the outline of the letters, you can give the illusion of having 3 or 4 layered letters.
1-Color Letter Also referred to as single-letter, this is just a one color fabric used to make your Greek letters.
2-Color Letter Also referred to as double-letter, this is two separate fabric pieces used to make your Greek letters. One fabric is the background color which outlines the foreground fabric color.
Applique
A type of fabric used to create stitched on lettering. This is how we produce your garments with Sewn-On Greek Letters. This term is used interchangeably with "Twill."
Background Color
This is the fabric color of the background applique for your Greek Letters. Most of our products are double lettered, with a foreground and background color.
Cross Stitch
A zig zag stitch used to sew twill fabric onto a garment.
Digitizing Digitizing is the process we use to convert an image into a format we can sew. If you submit an image that we don't have in our stock icon list, then we will require a digitizing fee for conversion.
Double Letter Also referred to as 2-color letter, this is two separate fabric pieces used to make your Greek letters. One fabric is the background color which outlines the foreground fabric color.
Embroidery The art of making a raised design with thread.
Foreground Color
This is the fabric color of the foreground applique for your Greek Letters. Most of our products are double lettered, with a foreground and background color.
Satin Stitch
A long, straight embroidery stitch worked closely parallel in rows to form a patter that resembles satin. This type of stitch is also used in sewing applique fabrics onto a garment.
Single Letter Also referred to as 1-color letter, this is just a one color fabric used to make your Greek letters.
Twill
A type of fabric used to create stitched on lettering. This is how we produce your garments with Sewn-On Greek Letters. This term is used interchangeably with "Applique."
Zig Zag Stitch
A stitch style used to sew twill fabric onto a garment. This stitch style is the same as a cross stitch.

If you would like to use any of these fonts, let us know in the special instructions area of your custom garment.
